Palm Valley Day Tour

SIGHTSEEING HIGHLIGHTS

Full Day, Depart: 8.00 a.m.
Travel by 4-wheel drive vehicle through Owen Springs Cattle station to Finke Gorge National Park and Palm Valley. This oasis is renowned for its Red Cabbage Palms (Livistonia mariae), some up to 25 metres high. Take in views of rugged red sandstone cliffs and wander amongst a variety of lush palms and clusters of cycads, or just relax in this paradisiacal area. You might like to climb to the top of the valley walls. Visit Cycad Gorge with its impressive cliff display of rare plants growing along its northern and western walls. Stop at Kalamanga Lookout and enjoy spectacular views of the amphitheatre. Continue on to historic Hermannsburg. Visit the Lutheran Mission, stroll amongst the old buildings and take a guided tour through the art gallery featuring original works by famous local Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira. Artworks are also available for purchase. Return to Alice Springs late in the afternoon. (L).
