In partnership with Wunan Foundation, a collective of the Kimberley’s Aboriginal people, we can provide exclusive Aboriginal cultural experiences and access to permanent safari camps in the best wilderness locations. What’s more, low environmental impact policies are in practice at all the camps. These are just some of the reasons why Kimberley Wilderness Adventures is a member of the Western Australian Tourism Hall of Fame, with multiple tourism awards to our name.
Welcome to APT, my family-owned company since 1927, founded by my father Bill McGeary and today involving a third generation, Rob and Louise. One of the world’s last great wilderness areas, the Kimberley is a special destination that is close to my heart and I am proud to welcome Kimberley Wilderness Adventures to the APT Family Group.
An innovative, award-winning tour operator committed to exceeding the expectations of travellers, Kimberley Wilderness Adventures shares a lot in common with APT. In fact, combine their 12 years of success with APT’s 77 years as Australia’s leading tour operator and you have a wealth of local knowledge and nearly a century of experience.
Let me tell you a little about what you can expect when you join us for a Kimberley Wilderness Adventure — this is your chance to discover a truly isolated part of Australia without ‘doing it tough’. From magnificent Cable Beach in Broome, across the rugged Gibb River Road and into the wilds of the Mitchell Plateau and the World Heritage Bungle Bungle, our small group tours
ensure a relaxed, fun and adventurous experience.
Our comfortable all-terrain vehicles allow you to discover remote lands that can only be accessed via 4-wheel drive. Even though you’ll be heading off the usual tourist track, we’ll make sure you do it in the best comfort possible, with our exclusive collection of safari camps and station homesteads. Rest assured, the special places we stay really make the experience.
I hope you will join us for an unforgettable Kimberley Wilderness Adventure.

Kimberley Wilderness Adventures have been operating 4-wheel drive safari tours throughout the Kimberley for more than 12 years and are recognised as the touring specialists in the region. The company’s reputation for traveller satisfaction and quality operation have been recognised with several tourism awards. However, even greater reward comes from the satisfaction of our travellers, their ongoing patronage and personal recommendations to friends. It is our commitment to ensure that APT Kimberley Wilderness Adventures continues to exceed all your expectations.
APT Kimberley Wilderness Adventures has established Australia’s most extensive network of permanent safari camps along the Gibb River Road, in the Mitchell Plateau and in Purnululu National Park, home of the Bungle Bungle Range. These safari camps have been strategically positioned and developed to provide guests with unparalleled access to special parts of the Kimberley in a way that respects the cultural and environmental values of our special region. As part of a long-standing partnership, the Aboriginal traditional owners welcome you to their land.
APT Kimberley Wilderness Adventures provides a specialist range of touring for the discerning traveller. We aim to provide you with flexibility in the length of your holiday, level of activity and the style of accommodation you enjoy. In recognising the different needs of travellers, we have designed a range of programmes to suit all requirements — you can choose the adventure holiday of your dreams.
Touring in small groups of up to 20 travellers, APT Kimberley Wilderness Adventures understands that touring is about more than just visiting an area. We give you time to explore in depth and experience personal interaction with the traditional Aboriginal land owners — so you can learn all about the diverse culture and natural history of this fascinating region.
The quality of our operation is recognised by a long list of Western Australian tourism awards and accolades from the national travel industry. In 2002, Kimberley Wilderness Adventures was inducted to the Western Australian Tourism Hall of Fame, an achievement that only a handful of tour operators can boast.
Our Personal Guarantee: The $5 Million Protection Plan
It pays to deal with a financially
secure company. To prove our own financial security and to protect you, APT has
placed $5 million AUD in a trust account. This is our Consumer Protection
Guarantee. In the very unlikely event of APT's insolvency, this money would be
used to reimburse our valued customers for fares pre-paid to us.
STATION STAYS & OUR OWN NETWORK OF EXCLUSIVE PERMANENT SAFARI CAMPS
Whether you join one of our accommodated safaris or choose a tour that stays primarily in permanent safari camps, we’ll make sure you enjoy the best comfort possible.
There are no five-star resorts out here so just kick back, relax and soak up the rugged wilderness, friendly characters and unique atmosphere of the Kimberley.
Staying in our exclusive safari camps and relaxed station homesteads is really half the adventure!
Experience true Kimberley hospitality when we stay at Outback station homesteads.
In larger centres such as Broome and Kununurra, we stay in quality hotels.
In the King Leopold Range, Mt Hart was a working cattle station until 1987. Today, Taffy and Annabelle Abbotts — together with their three dingoes and barking owl — provide old-fashioned bush hospitality and modern cuisine. Explore the lush tropical gardens or just relax at the homestead.
This working cattle station on the Gibb River Road is surrounded by wilderness, including Wandjina and Gwion (Bradshaw) rock art. Get back to nature, enjoy delicious family meals and hear about life in the Outback from hosts Pat and Peter Lacy.
Emma Gorge Resort, El Questro
The Kimberley’s most famous cattle station, El Questro boasts rugged gorges, waterfalls and a rich pioneering history. We stay in tented cabins at Emma Gorge Resort.
For self-drive travellers, this is the easy, convenient and safe way to travel the Kimberley — it’s the stress-free alternative to camping. With a Safari Pass, there is no need to carry a carload of equipment or worry about setting up camp. Our strategically located permanent safari camps provide the ideal place to stop. At the end of a full day, there is nothing better than a comfortable tent ready and waiting (with twin beds, sheets, doonas), a hot shower, home style dinner and time to enjoy a drink around the campfire. Rates are per person per night, including a three-course dinner and breakfast.
Our Gibb River Road and Mitchell Plateau camps are exclusively located on Aboriginal land, and Safari Pass guests visit the country with the welcome of the traditional owners.
In Purnululu National Park, our camp is the ultimate base for touring. Camp hosts will happily share touring advice and, in constant contact with APT’s Kununurra base, can also provide emergency communication assistance if required.
With APT Kimberley Wilderness Adventures, you can stay in remote wilderness areas without the hard work of traditional camping. Gone are the days of putting up your own tent, sleeping on the ground and fumbling around in the dark using temporary toilet facilities. Our exclusive and strategically located permanent safari camps allow you to discover the best of the Kimberley, with the welcome of the traditional land owners.
From the Gibb River Road to the isolated Mitchell Plateau, all the way to Purnululu National Park, our network of camps provide exclusive access to the best locations.
In partnership with the Aboriginal land owners, the camps are exclusive to APT Kimberley Wilderness Adventures. All camps are permanently staffed with dedicated hosts, ensuring you enjoy delicious meals, fantastic company and incredible surrounds. Experience the wilderness in style:
• Permanent tents feature comfortable twin beds, linen, doonas, side tables and lighting
• Delicious home style meals are served in insect-proof communal dining areas
