The Kimberley and NT Safari tour explores the best of the Gibb River Road and the Bungle Bungle domes, but also takes you to the exciting regions of Cape Leveque and World Heritage Kakadu National Park. Cape Leveque is an isolated region with rich Aboriginal traditions and spectacular coastline. In Kakadu, we visit special destinations that can only be accessed by 4-wheel drive. Stay in permanent safari camps and lodges, and experience the camaraderie of small group travel.

Itinerary

Day 1. Broome, Cape Leveque

Depart Broome at 7.20 a.m. Tour the sights of Broome before we travel to Cape Leveque, a very special and isolated region that is only accessible by 4WD vehicle. Visit the Aboriginal community at Beagle Bay and view the impressive church.

Day 2. Cape Leveque Beaches

Today explore the stunning coastline. Choose to swim, snorkel, go fishing or just wander along the magnificent beach. Visit Aboriginal communities and see traditional arts and crafts. This afternoon, we return to Broome, home of dazzling Cable Beach.

Day 3. Gibb River Road, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge National Park

We begin our journey along the Gibb River Road, a remote Outback cattle route accessing some of the Kimberley's best gorges. Explore Tunnel Creek and walk into Windjana Gorge, where freshwater crocodiles can often be seen.

Day 4. Bell Gorge, Hiking and Swimming

Today we travel to Bell Gorge, where we hike to a series of tiered waterholes surrounded by bushland. Enjoy time to explore or cool off with a swim. (BLD)

Day 5. Galvans Gorge, El Questro, Emma Gorge

Explore idyllic Galvans Gorge, with time for a swim. We cross the Pentecost River and head to El Questro. Hike through stunning scenery to Emma Gorge.

Day 6. Zebedee Springs, Purnululu National. Park

At El Questro Station, we walk to Zebedee Springs for a rejuvenating soak. Then we negotiate the 4WD track into World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park.

Day 7. Purnululu, Bungle Bungle Range, Cathedral Gorge, Echidna Chasm

Explore wonderful Purnululu in full today. See the Bungle Bungle domes and walk into the natural amphitheatre of Cathedral Gorge. Enjoy a fascinating hike into Echidna Chasm. You also have the option to take a scenic helicopter flight over the incredible striped domes (own expense). (BLD)

Day 8. Kununurra, Hidden Valley, Ord River, Lake Kununurra Sunset Cruise

We travel to Kununurra, where we explore Hidden Valley National Park and see the massive Ord River Scheme. We finish a great day with a sunset barbecue cruise on Lake Kununurra.

Day 9. Nitmiluk, Canoe Katherine Gorge

Driving east, we cross into the Northern Territory. Pass the tiny town of Timber Creek en route to Nitmiluk National Park, home of 13 spectacular gorges. Canoe along the calm waters of Katherine Gorge, with sandstone cliffs towering above.

Day 10. Kakadu National Park, Yellow Water

Entering World Heritage Kakadu National Park, we explore Gunlom waterhole, surrounded by palms. Cruise magnificent Yellow Water billabong, looking out for wetlands birdlife and saltwater crocodiles.

Day 11. Kakadu, Jim Jim Falls, Twin Falls

Travel along the Arnhem Land Escarpment to Jim Jim Falls, where we walk into the gorge. At Twin Falls, swim over to the base of the falls (ability to swim a must). Activities subject to road conditions. Alternative touring provided if required. (BLD)

Day 12. Kakadu, Aboriginal Rock Art, Darwin

To learn more about the Kakadu habitat, we take an informative walk at the Warradjan Visitor Centre. Explore ancient rock art at Nourlangie Rock and Ubirr. Stop at the Bowali Visitor Centre before we return to Darwin, where the tour concludes at 6.00 p.m. (BL)
